Dupatta is an integral part of Lehenga choli, Salwar
Kameez and Chaniya Choli. A beautiful dupatta increases the beauty of Indian
traditional dress. Different types of printed, embroidered dupattas, wedding
dupatta are available in market. To give them festive look bead frills are
attached to the width of dupatta. Bandhani dupatta in silk and cotton
contrasting with plain salwar suit looks great but the joy of making your own
designer dupatta is not compared to any. It is not very difficult and time
consuming task. You can paint your dupatta or embroidery can be done.
Materials Needed:
Rectangular Chunni fabric
Golden Lace
3” wide golden ornamented border
Embellishments (beads, sequins or crystals)
Needle
Thread (matching to the dupatta color)
Fabric Glue
Bead frills or crystal hangings (latkans)
Method:
1.
Begin with planning a design for your Chunni.
Depending on the design plan the layout.
2.
Place the fabric on an even surface. Take away
any wrinkles. If needed, Iron to smoothen.
3.
Make the marks on chunari to stick sequins and
stones with a pencil. Take care of pattern if something is already there. The
sequins should be placed at equal distance from the central pattern.
4. Paste them with fabric glue
5.
Sew the golden lace at broader ends of dupatta
and ornamented border on other two ends.
6.
Hang latkans
on the ends to add charm to it.
7.
Hurray! You have successfully made your own designer dupatta.
